DAY 13 WILLIAMS ARIZONA, HOOVER DAM, LAS VEGAS,

Williams Arizona claims to be the last town bypassed by the interstate vis-à-vis Route 66. Touristimo City. Bikers, babes, posers galore, machine gun ranges and onion rings.

 

We own the streets with the Harley boys 



Bypassed by the interstate seems like a sad commentary but in fact no one ever came to Williams Arizona before except to stay overnight to see the Grand Canyon. They do about 10 times the business now that they’re not a main road and are a nostalgia-poser hot spot🥺🙄

As soon as I finish with this I’m gonna go shoot real machine guns at paper targets designed to look like snowflakes

ON TO THE HOOVER DAM LATER IN THE DAY

The Hoover dam area and the physical plant has been redone and improved with artwork and huge imposing concrete construction and it’s really just absolutely amazing, wonderful. It’s a full destination in and of itself and truly one of the wonders of our country


Some of the artwork commemorates the workers who put the damn together and made it real between 1931 and 1934 as the country put its skilled laborers to work during the depression

AND…..INTO LAS VEGAS, at 117 degrees, with an inversion heat blanket over the top of everything! Last night at 10:30 it was still 104° and we woke up to 87°

    Hoover dam is an amazing piece of concrete and steel. Size and magnitude of what it provides is a miracle in the desert. And the reason Lost Wages exists, for the moment ;). E

    As for the inversion, yeah, Sacramento, Reno, L.A. all the areas with a sort of basin ends up that way. I coul not live in a city like that. E

OK not much of note, beyond wonderful travel—camping over last 24 to 30 hour period.  Travel and camp. It’s what we do.  We’re in the farm country of the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley. Fruit nuts corn citrus of all kinds and huge agricultural enterprise.  Campsite in the Visalia farm country Reginald prepares himself for his morning abolitions. Still Kickin and camping at 15 years old Will be doing some cleanup and organization here for a couple of hours and then…… Heading for Yosemite National Park in a couple hours.

SEPTEMBER 28, 29, 30 WALLACE IDAHO

WALLACE. Northern Idaho in silver mining corridor that runs access Idaho from Cour d’Alene. Wallace recreated itself as a Mecca for tourists, skiers ⛷, bike riders, hikers and authentic junk collectors. The people are wonderful, friendly— no gouging. Food and sights and countryside beautiful.  They named the town the CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE- and promote it tongue-in-cheek, saying they must be the center of the universe since no one can prove they are not !?!?😶😎   Did some biking, hiking, world class eating and camping— on a mountain stream, right behind the campsite  Bill and I head for the Outlaw Bar in Milan ID, on bikes    Bill and Linda lead the way  Evening campfire weenies Rain in Wallace; we press on River on bike ride to Millan Idaho On way to Wallace, stopped for breakfast at a real American truck stop cafe Our campsite- Wallace Eating in old retro cafe in Wallace  We crank it up for our pro bike ride Wallace is called the center of the unive...

DAY 2; PERDIDO BAY, TO LAKE LINCOLN MISSISSIPPI

“Are we there yet?” “…NO! Ask again and I’m tossing you out the window at 70 MPH…!!” ANYWAY…. We had a LONG tour of the Mississippi wasteland (Faulkners words, not mine)…on the way to the backwoods 🥺 Approaching Lake Lincoln State Park  We ensconced on the waterfront at Lake Lincoln State Park, kind of between Hattiesburg and Jackson Mississippi. Weather much improved from yesterday! We got checked in by Jerry Flowers, who returned from the grave to entertain, talking unintelligibly, while munching a large food item. Possibly a Moon Pie or an ice cream sandwich. I immediately located a 10 inch mushroom. The stalk is two inches in diameter. It’s monstrous. Nature Highlight of the evening, one suspects. Although I just snapped this out of the turtle and the sunset will be A+ Anywhoom, We walked around, ran the dogs, ate beans, rice and mixed 🥗 salad.  The lake is a large sport fishing and water sport Mecca for this area.
